About Melbourne University Weightlifting & Powerlifting Club

Melbourne University Weightlifting & Powerlifting Club has been going strong since the 1950s.

For the last 30 years the club has focused on powerlifting and has produced dozens of Australian champions and record holders. Also, hundreds of beginners have passed through the Club and developed their bodies and character to previously unattainable levels.

Training

The Club trains every Monday, Thursday and Friday from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Our purpose built facilities are located in the Heavy Weights Room (next to the main gym inside the Beaurepaire Centre) on Tin Alley at the University of Melbourne.

All are welcome to come and train. Simply turn up at any of the above times. Alternatively, if you would like more information first, feel free to call the Club’s head coach, Robert Wilks, on 0418 366 416 or email him at rwilks@powerlifting.net.au.

The Heavy Weights Room is different from the main university gym and most other commercial gyms. It is fully equipped with specialised Eleiko powerlifting bars and weights, 3 squat racks, 3 benches and 3 lifting platforms as well as a glute ham raise and full range of dumbbells.

The Heavy Weights Room and powerlifting training is far superior to “ordinary weight training”. This is the place to develop increased strength and, if desired, size.
